Description
Emma was born in 1869. She come to Pocahontas, Virginia with her father in a covered wagon. She studied fashion in New York City and opened a milliner shop on Center Street in Pocahontas. Customers arrived at her shop by horse or train. Upon her death in 1954, her relatives donated the building to Historic Pocahontas. The buiding became the Emma Yates Memorial Library in 1987. The library became the Pocahontas Branch of the Tazewell County Public Library in June, 2021.
